Happy!
I got approved for my apartment! Signing the lease on Thursday, moving in on Friday!
A little bit of blog.
I was thinking a moment ago, as I read through blog posts of mine, how much I enjoy doing so since most of my posts are about things I love or things that evoke some strong feeling in me. As I perused past posts I didn’t find it pleasant to come across posts of mine about things that irritated me. So in the spirit of optimism, I propose that from now forward I will always post things that...

Word of the Day: MacGuffin
“a plot element that catches the viewers’ attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction”. The defining aspect of a MacGuffin is that the major players in the story are (at least initially) willing to do and sacrifice almost anything to obtain it, regardless of what the MacGuffin actually is. In fact, the specific nature of the MacGuffin may be ambiguous, undefined, generic,...

There are five praying mantises on my window.
I imagine this would be far funnier if Gary Larson were here.

Meet My [cousin's] Kids
This is Oliver, the sweetest boy in the world, who has hair that sticks straight up in the morning if his daddy doesn’t blow dry it after his bath and ‘blue eyes’ that are really turning green. His favorite activities are helping me in the kitchen, turning people into baby birds with magic wands he finds in the park, and scaring other people by climbing to the very tippy top of...

– My life is average:
This gets me every time. So frustrating.
hellosole asked: Baa, baa, Jonfin, have you any jam?
In other words, CAN I HAZ SOME OF UR WARES? I'll pay you in cupcakes. Derrisshus vegan ones!! Your jam brings all the girls to the yard. And they're like, it's better than yours. Prolly because of the zebra.
No, really. It looks really tasty. Can I have a jar next time you're in Austin? Pretty please?

Word of the Day: Conspicuous Consumption
A term used to describe the lavish spending on goods and services acquired mainly for the purpose of displaying income or wealth. In the mind of a conspicuous consumer, such display serves as a means of attaining or maintaining social status. A very similar but more colloquial term is “keeping up with the Joneses”.
This comes to mind especially while watching MTV Cribs.
Disgusting.

I think bugs are fascinating.
I found an almost dead wasp, and, rather than throw him in the bin, I am immortalizing him in a very blurry iPhone video.
I can’t stand cave crickets and cockroaches though.

skidmarks asked: You have every right to be upset. Just don't let it consume you. Things work out the way they do for a reason. What that reason may be, who knows? You might find out today, tomorrow, or years from now. Don't let yourself be in the dumps. Life is way too short and way too fucking awesome for that. No matter what happens, you are loved.

I am making gnocchi from scratch for dinner!
The word gnocchi means “lumps”, and may derive from nocchio, a knot in the wood, or from nocca (knuckle). It has been a traditional Italian pasta type of probably Middle Eastern origin since Roman times. It was introduced by the Roman Legions during the enormous expansion of the empire into the countries of the European continent. In the past 2,000 years, each country developed its own...
